Description
5-Amino-1MQ is a small-molecule research compound that acts as
a selective inhibitor of nicotinamide N-methyltransferase (NNMT). In preclinical metabolic models
it increases NAD⁺ salvage-pathway flux, with downstream effects on energy homeostasis and
sirtuin activation. It is used to investigate epigenetic and redox control mechanisms associated
with cellular metabolism and ageing.
The sections below summarise findings reported in published preclinical and early-stage literature. They describe what has been observed in study models, not outcomes offered to any purchaser.
Areas of Research Interest
1. NNMT inhibition and NAD⁺ flux
NNMT is reported to be overexpressed in models of metabolic dysfunction. Inhibiting it has
been studied for:
- Increased intracellular NAD⁺ availability
- Shifts in adipocyte metabolic activity
- Reduced lipid-storage signalling
This mechanism is distinct from stimulants, growth-hormone secretagogues, or GLP-1 receptor
compounds.
2. Adipocyte biology
In published animal models, 5-Amino-1MQ has been studied for:
- Limits on adipocyte proliferation and expansion
- Changes in adipose mass in the absence of caloric restriction
- Differential effects by adipose depot
3. Mitochondrial and metabolic markers
- Mitochondrial efficiency
- Substrate utilisation and metabolic flexibility
- Sirtuin-dependent signalling downstream of NAD⁺
4. Non-hormonal, non-stimulant profile
In research models, 5-Amino-1MQ is reported not to raise HGH or IGF-1, not to act on
adrenergic pathways, and not to act directly on appetite signalling.
5. Route of administration in research
Compared with oral research forms, injectable delivery avoids first-pass hepatic metabolism and
gives more consistent systemic exposure in study models. The compound remains investigational.
