Description
What is Epithalon?
Epithalon (also written Epitalon) is a research peptide consisting of a synthetic tetrapeptide (Ala-Glu-Asp-Gly) derived from the natural thymic peptide Epithalamin. It has been shown in preclinical research to influence telomerase activation, oxidative regulation, and circadian gene expression via modulation of pineal peptide signaling pathways. Epithalon is used as a model compound in studies investigating genomic stability, epigenetic control, and neuroendocrine peptide regulation.
Areas of research interest
Aging and longevity
May help maintain telomeres, slowing cellular aging processes. Research studies have reported increased lifespan and changes in markers of organ function in animal models.
Sleep and circadian rhythm
Epithalon may normalize melatonin secretion, supporting sleep quality and regulation of sleep-wake cycles, especially in older individuals whose melatonin declines with age. Better sleep in turn supports mood, metabolic health, and immune function.
Neuroprotection and cognitive measures
Animal and cellular studies suggest possible protective effects on brain cells and support for memory and learning, along with reduced oxidative stress in neuronal tissues.
Immune function and oxidative stress
Some research indicates immune modulation, potentially improving T-cell function and reducing age-related immune decline. Epithalon may also act as an antioxidant, lowering free-radical damage.
Skin and tissue health
Studied in relation to cellular repair mechanisms, dermal elasticity markers and tissue maintenance in study models; direct clinical evidence is limited.
Metabolic and hormonal measures
Studies suggest potential effects on hormonal balance, including regulation of melatonin and possibly other endocrine signals. Preliminary animal data report changes in glucose metabolism and insulin sensitivity markers.
